Hi 👋, my name is Hemant. I’m from Pune, India, and I’m the creator of Hindi Hacking.

This project started when a few of my friends mentioned they wanted to learn Hindi to better connect with their partners. What I noticed was that most of the existing resources are overwhelming. They focus on grammar, building vocabulary and complicated explanations.
But here’s the thing: in everyday life, we don’t really need to start with Devanagari (the Hindi script) in order to communicate. More and more, people speak and even write in Romanized Hindi.
And when it comes to actually learning a language, my own experience learning German convinced me that it’s better to jump into conversations than to obsess over grammar rules in the beginning. There is a time for Grammar, but it’s not something to begin with.
That’s how we learn as kids: we listen, repeat, and speak. We don’t begin with textbooks.
How Hindi Hacking Began
In 2025, I wrote Hindi Hacking, a book that introduced non-Hindi speakers to practical, everyday Hindi. You can read more about the book here.
After publishing, readers reached out to me with their own goals:
- Teaching their kids Hindi in a fun way
- Surprising their partners with Hindi phrases
- Feeling more confident at Indian family gatherings or parties
That’s when I realized: there was a real need for a living, always-available resource focused on conversations rather than grammar drills. This site is my way of filling that gap.
My Approach
I’m not a linguist — and honestly, I think that’s a strength. I’m teaching you the Hindi my family and friends actually speak, not just what old textbooks say.
Languages evolve quickly, and Hindi and English are blending more than ever. I’m not a “Hindi purist”; in fact, sticking to textbook Hindi can sometimes earn you strange looks. Instead, I’ll show you how people really use Hindi today.
Principles of Hindi Hacking
- I use English as the base language as that’s what I feel comfortably explaining in.
- Conversations > Grammar → I focus on making you speak first. If you want advanced grammar, I will point you to additional resources.
- Careful use of AI → I use AI tools for research and drafting, but I always review and edit everything. If it’s not useful, it doesn’t make it onto the site.
What I’m Thinking About
One of my big questions right now: how will language learning content adapt in the age of AI?
With tools like ChatGPT and Google AI giving instant answers, fewer people might discover independent sites like this one. But at the same time, my foolish optimism suggests that personalized content and lessons will be needed even more, so I’ll keep at it.
